California Jury Sides with Cardi B in Civil Assault Case

Cardi B scored a major legal victory this week after a California jury cleared her of assault allegations tied to a $24 million civil lawsuit.

The case was brought by former security guard Emani Ellis, who accused the Grammy-winning rapper of attacking her, spitting on her, and using racial slurs outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office in 2018. At the time, Cardi B was pregnant with her first child and had not yet made the news public.

During the trial, Cardi B admitted cursing at Ellis after she attempted to film her but firmly denied ever laying a hand on her.

After less than an hour of deliberations, the 12-member jury sided with the rapper, rejecting Ellis’ claims. Speaking outside the courthouse, Cardi B thanked her legal team, the jurors, and her fans. She said she missed her children’s first school days because of the trial and stressed her innocence, declaring, “I did not touch that woman.”

The 32-year-old artist also vowed to countersue anyone who brings “frivolous lawsuits” against her in the future.
