Bill Chisholm’s $6.1B Takeover Ushers in New Era for Boston Celtics

Equity mogul Bill Chisholm and his investment group are set to take control of the Boston Celtics after the NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved the $6.1 billion deal, the second-largest U.S. sports franchise sale ever. The group will acquire at least 51% of the team now, with plans to buy out the remaining shares in 2028 for $7.3 billion. Outgoing owner Wyc Grousbeck will remain CEO until then, having guided the Celtics to two NBA titles, including their record 18th championship in 2024.
