Armani’s Iconic Designs Meet Italy’s Art Legacy in Milan
A major retrospective in Milan is celebrating 50 years of Giorgio Armani’s career, showcasing over 100 iconic designs that defined the Italian designer’s understated elegance.
The exhibition, opening during Milan Fashion Week and running through January, includes rare dresses, suits, and striking red and silver garments displayed alongside Italian masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
The retrospective coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Armani label and was curated with input from Armani himself, who passed away earlier this month at age 91.
The exhibition sets the stage for a runway show of Armani’s spring collection on September 28 at the Brera art museum.
Armani remained fiercely independent throughout his life, resisting takeovers and stock listings, though his will instructs heirs to sell the company in phases to potential buyers like LVMH, L’Oréal, and EssilorLuxottica.
Until that transition, his closest family members and longtime collaborators, including Pantaleo Dell’Orco, will oversee operations alongside a foundation created by the designer.
