Amazon Quietly Tests AI Inside Hollywood Studios

Amazon is quietly testing artificial intelligence tools within its Hollywood studios as it looks to speed up the production of movies and television shows, according to Reuters.

The initiative, known internally as “AI Studio,” is being developed at Amazon MGM Studios and is designed to reduce costs and streamline parts of the creative process amid rising production expenses across the entertainment industry.

The company plans to launch a closed beta program in March, inviting selected industry partners to test the AI tools, with early results expected by May. Amazon executives say the technology is intended to assist — not replace — writers, directors, actors, and designers, who will remain involved at every stage of production.

The push comes as studios face mounting pressure from ballooning budgets that limit the number of projects they can finance. Amazon believes AI could help accelerate workflows such as pre-production planning, visual continuity, and post-production processes, allowing studios to produce more content more efficiently.

Amazon is leaning on its cloud division, Amazon Web Services, and plans to work with multiple AI model providers to give creators flexibility while protecting intellectual property. Safeguards are being built to ensure AI-generated material is not reused or absorbed into other systems without permission.

The move unfolds against ongoing debate in Hollywood, where actors and creatives have voiced concerns that AI could disrupt jobs and permanently reshape the industry. Amazon says its approach keeps creative control in human hands while using AI as a supporting tool.
