Algorithm King: Charles III as Painted by a Robot
A new portrait of King Charles III has been unveiled, but this time, the artist wasn’t human.
“Algorithm King” was created by Ai-Da, the world’s first ultra-realistic humanoid robot artist, using AI algorithms, a robotic painting arm, and cameras embedded in her eyes. The artwork was revealed during the 2025 “AI for Good” summit in Geneva, hosted by the United Nations, where it sparked conversation about how artificial intelligence is reshaping art, diplomacy, and identity.
Ai-Da’s creators say the project aims to highlight how machines are entering human creative domains. Reactions have been mixed as some were fascinated by the innovation, while others were wary of its implications.
The robot previously painted Queen Elizabeth II in a piece titled “Algorithm Queen,” and her 2024 painting sold at Sotheby’s for $1 million.
“Algorithm King” will tour globally through 2026 alongside portraits of other world leaders, an exhibition meant to challenge viewers’ perception of authorship and originality.
