AI Glasses Caption the World in Real Time for the Deaf

A new pair of AI-powered smart glasses is poised to transform communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals by providing real-time captions directly in the wearer’s field of vision.

The XRAI Glass technology, born from a founder’s experience watching his grandfather struggle with hearing aids, uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality to transcribe and translate spoken conversations instantly, supporting up to 300 languages.

At a presentation in London, users expressed how the technology made them feel safe and engaged, with some noting its potential to reduce reliance on human sign language interpreters in many situations.

Priced at £699 (approximately $935), the latest model also allows conversations to be streamed to other devices, aiming to bridge a significant accessibility gap.
