Top 10 Countries With Most McDonald’s Per Person

McDonald’s has conquered the globe over the past six decades, becoming the world’s most successful fast food chain with locations spanning continents.

But the density of those golden arches varies dramatically from country to country. According to the company’s 2024 Restaurant Count by Market report, the small Chinese special administrative region of Macau leads the world with an astonishing 56.8 McDonald’s locations per one million people.

It’s followed by the Caribbean island of St. Marten with 43.2 and the United States with 38.6.

Australia, Canada, and New Zealand all boast at least 32 locations per million residents. But the divide is starkest in Asia: China hosts nearly 5 locations per million citizens—ten times neighboring India’s meager 0.5 figure.

Japan features 24.1 sites per million, while Pakistan has just 0.3, the world’s lowest. Africa and the Middle East remain prime expansion territory, with Egypt at only 1.6, Morocco at 2, and South Africa leading the continent at 6.3. For McDonald’s, the growth story is far from over.
