U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham says he ended a meeting with Lebanese Chief of Defense General Rodolphe Haykal after a disagreement over Iran-backed groups operating in Lebanon.
According to Graham, he asked Haykal directly whether he considers Iran-backed groups to be terrorist organizations. Haykal responded, “No, not in the context of Lebanon.”
Graham said the response prompted him to immediately conclude the meeting, underscoring continued U.S. concerns about Iran’s influence in Lebanon and the role of armed groups outside state control.
