Germany’s ARX Robotics Deploys AI-Powered Military Robots

German startup ARX Robotics has launched its AI-powered unmanned ground vehicle, GEREON RCS, with 30 units already supporting Ukrainian forces in logistics and medical evacuation. An additional 15 units are in use across various European armed forces for surveillance and technical applications, according to COO Stefan Roebel.

The autonomous robot, equipped with artificial intelligence for navigation and obstacle avoidance, is being hailed as a flexible and cost-effective alternative to traditional military equipment. “We can develop and adapt very quickly,” Roebel said, noting ARX’s ability to respond faster to evolving defense needs.

Christian Hoesle of the Bundeswehr University’s Palladion Defence Accelerator emphasized the role of startups like ARX in driving innovation in Europe’s defense sector. Roebel also called on the German government to allocate a fixed portion of its defense budget to emerging tech firms.

The deployment comes as Germany ramps up military spending, following a parliamentary decision on March 18 to break from fiscal conservatism in favor of strengthening European defense capabilities.
