Kevin Hassett on the State of the US After Shutdown

Former White House Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Kevin Hassett says the U.S. economy remains strong, with third-quarter growth nearing 4%. He notes that momentum from President Trump’s policies continues to drive performance, though the ongoing government shutdown could slow growth heading into the fourth quarter.

Hassett adds that the Federal Reserve’s recent decision to cut interest rates was the right move, given signs that inflation is lower than expected. However, he warns that the shutdown’s impact on data reporting is creating uncertainty for future Fed decisions.
