Britain’s Sausage Roll Gets the Spotlight
Madame Tussauds London, known for its lifelike celebrity wax figures, has taken an unexpected turn by honoring a pastry.
The Greggs sausage roll, a beloved British snack, is now immortalized in wax and displayed in the museum’s Culture Capital Zone. It joins a lineup of influential British figures like David Attenborough, William Shakespeare, and Stormzy.
This marks the first time a food item has been given such treatment at the museum. Artists approached the project as seriously as any human subject: they studied real sausage rolls, sculpted in clay, and carefully painted layers to capture the snack’s iconic golden glaze.
Unveiled to coincide with the U.K.’s National Sausage Roll Day on June 5, the exhibit celebrates the cultural impact of the humble roll and the nation’s obsession with it.
