World Leaders Launch Board of Peace on Gaza at Davos Summit

World leaders meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, have formally launched a new international “Board of Peace” and signed a charter aimed at ending the war in Gaza and overseeing reconstruction. President Donald Trump, introduced as chairman of the Board of Peace, called the agreement a historic breakthrough, saying it establishes a framework for a ceasefire, accelerated humanitarian aid, long-term development, and a pathway toward rebuilding and governance transition in Gaza. The charter calls for an end to hostilities and demands the full demilitarization of Hamas, with Trump warning that failure to comply would trigger international enforcement. Several key U.S. allies, including major European powers and some NATO partners, did not attend the ceremony or declined to sign. Diplomatic officials cited concerns over U.S. dominance in the board’s structure, unresolved legal and security questions about governance and enforcement, and humanitarian concerns related to Palestinian self-determination. Despite those reservations, representatives from more than a dozen countries signed the agreement, formally empowering the Board of Peace to oversee Gaza’s security, reconstruction, and economic transformation.
