Welch: This Is Trump’s War of Choice
U.S. Senator Peter Welch condemned President Donald Trump on the Senate floor, calling the escalating conflict with Iran a “war of choice” that should not have begun. Welch argued that the administration abandoned diplomacy and warned that the conflict is now spreading without a clearly defined endgame.
Welch said there has been no coherent rationale offered for how the war will conclude and expressed concern that U.S. national interests are not being prioritized. He also suggested that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears to be influencing the direction of U.S. policy, arguing that American leadership should focus first and foremost on U.S. interests.
The Vermont Democrat said “America does not want this war,” warning of the risks of deeper U.S. involvement in the Middle East.
