UK Royal Mint Honors Freddie Mercury With New £2 Coin
Britain’s Royal Mint has unveiled a commemorative two-pound coin honoring the legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, capturing him in one of his most iconic poses from the band’s landmark 1986 Wembley performance.
The tribute arrives at a symbolic moment, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Queen’s historic Live Aid show, the release of their album “A Night at the Opera,” and four decades since Mercury’s debut solo project “Mr. Bad Guy.”
Complete with versions featuring his signature yellow jacket and white trousers, the new coin is part of the Mint’s prestigious “Music Legends” collection.
Mercury’s sister, Kashmira Bulsara, personally struck the first coin, reflecting on how the honor symbolizes the recognition her brother never received in his lifetime.
The launch cements Mercury’s enduring influence on global music history and offers fans a tangible piece of his legacy.
