Trump Administration Slams CNN Over Iranian Leader Broadcast
The Trump administration has denounced CNN after the network aired a portion of a public statement from Iran’s new supreme leader during coverage of the war between the United States and Iran.
The criticism came after CNN broadcast a segment of remarks from Mojtaba Khamenei, who recently assumed power after his father was killed in an Israeli airstrike earlier in the conflict.
White House officials accused the network of amplifying Iranian state messaging by airing part of the statement, which had originally been broadcast on Iranian state television.
The dispute follows another recent clash between the administration and CNN over an interview with a former Iranian nuclear negotiator. Administration officials argued that broadcasting such content risks giving a platform to adversaries during wartime.
CNN defended its editorial decision, saying the remarks were aired because they were newsworthy and relevant to understanding how the conflict may develop. The network also noted that the message from Iran’s new leader had already been widely reported and circulated across multiple media platforms.
