Stolen 2,500-Year-Old Treasure Finally Recovered
A spectacular collection of 2,500-year-old Geto-Dacian treasures, stolen during a violent overnight heist last year, has been successfully recovered by Dutch authorities. The artifacts, which were on loan from the National History Museum in Bucharest to the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, include the legendary golden Helmet of Cotofenesti and two gold bracelets dating back to 50 B.C. Dutch prosecutors revealed on April 2, 2026, that the recovery was made possible through a deal with three suspects currently in detention, who provided the location of the items in exchange for considerations in their upcoming trial. While the return of these primary pieces is a massive win for the archaeological community, one gold bracelet remains missing. The suspects are accused of using explosives to breach the museum, and the search continues for the final piece of this priceless Romanian heritage.
