Sen. Tim Kaine Welcomes Israel-Lebanon Talks
Tim Kaine said the start of direct discussions between Israel and Lebanon is a positive step after decades without sustained diplomatic engagement between the neighboring countries.
Speaking to reporters, Kaine described the absence of meaningful dialogue between Israel and Lebanon over many years as “a real tragedy,” emphasizing that neighbors benefit from direct communication rather than relying on outside mediation alone.
He noted that while talks do not guarantee a breakthrough, the absence of diplomacy often increases the risk of continued conflict, making the current discussions an important development for regional stability.
The remarks follow rare face-to-face engagement between Israeli and Lebanese officials in Washington, where U.S. officials hosted discussions aimed at reducing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border and supporting longer-term security efforts in the region.
