Sen. Peter Welch Raises Concerns Over Middle East War

U.S. Senator Peter Welch is raising concerns about the expanding conflict in the Middle East, warning the war is worsening conditions across the region, particularly in Lebanon.

Speaking about the ongoing fighting involving Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, Welch described the conflict as a “catastrophe” and said it is making an already unstable situation in the Middle East worse. He also suggested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be pursuing military objectives that differ from those of Donald Trump.

Welch pointed to large-scale displacement in Lebanon, where more than one million people have reportedly been forced from their homes as cross-border fighting continues in southern parts of the country.

He also raised concerns about reported destruction of villages in southern Lebanon and warned that continued escalation could deepen humanitarian challenges and complicate broader cease-fire efforts in the region.

The remarks come as tensions remain high across the Middle East amid ongoing fighting tied to the wider confrontation involving Iran and its regional allies.
