Top 10 Most Visited Museums Worldwide (2019–2024)

The world’s most popular museums have experienced shifts in visitor numbers between 2019 and 2024, reflecting both post-pandemic recovery and changing cultural trends.

According to an annual ranking compiled by The Art Newspaper, Paris’ Musée du Louvre remains the most-visited museum, drawing 8.9 million visitors in 2024, slightly below its 2019 peak of 9.6 million.

Vatican Museums maintained steady attendance at 6.8 million, while London’s British Museum saw a modest increase to 6.5 million. Notable declines occurred at the Tate Modern and National Gallery in London, which fell 25% and 48% respectively, likely impacted by renovations, exhibition changes, and pandemic-related visitor caution.

Other institutions like Florence’s Uffizi Gallery and Paris’ Musée d’Orsay experienced growth, reflecting successful exhibitions and international tourism appeal.

Overall, these figures illustrate both the enduring global fascination with art and the evolving dynamics of cultural tourism across continents.
