Michael Jackson trends again as streams jump sharply

Michael Jackson’s music has seen a sharp rise in streaming activity following the release of the biopic “Michael.”

According to industry data from Luminate, streams of his catalog in the United States increased by 95% over the film’s opening weekend compared to the previous week.

The surge coincided with the film’s strong box office performance, earning about $97 million in its debut weekend in the US and Canada.

Over two days, Jackson’s music reached 31.7 million streams, up from 16.3 million during the same period the week before.

The renewed interest extended beyond Jackson’s solo work. The Jackson 5, the group that launched his career, also saw a significant boost, with streams rising by around 85%.

Streaming platforms reflected this trend, with multiple Jackson songs appearing on global charts, including Apple Music and Shazam rankings.

The increase in listening comes despite mixed reviews from critics, suggesting that the film’s release has had a strong impact on audience engagement.
