Iconic Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Beijing Closes After 11 Years

After more than a decade in China’s capital, Madame Tussauds Beijing has permanently closed following the expiration of its lease on October 1, marking the end of an era for the iconic wax museum on Qianmen Commercial Street.

Most wax figures were relocated to other Chinese cities, while some were retired and preserved.

The closure highlights the rising costs and shifting entertainment trends facing traditional attractions, as audiences now favor more interactive experiences like theme parks.

Despite the Beijing shutdown—and a similar closure in Chongqing—the Madame Tussauds brand remains strong in other cities, including Shanghai, Wuhan, and Hong Kong, continuing its 190-year legacy under Merlin Entertainments.
