LMPD Goes Viral After Flood of Snowstorm Posts

A weekend winter storm that brought several inches of snow to Louisville also delivered something unexpected: a wave of humor from the city’s police department.

As icy roads disrupted daily life, the Louisville Metro Police Department posted a series of sarcastic and joking messages on its X account, drawing widespread attention online.

The posts referenced everything from issuing zero speeding tickets to officers pushing stranded cars, along with jokes about bourbon sales, judging stuck drivers, and even video game culture.

As the storm continued, screenshots of the posts spread rapidly, with many users praising the lighter tone while others questioned whether humor was appropriate during a public safety event.

After the reaction grew, LMPD issued an apology for what it described as an “unhinged” tone, saying its social media posts did not reflect the department as a whole or the broader community.

The department then took the unusual step of asking its followers to weigh in, posting a poll asking whether its account should remain “unhinged” or return to a more “balanced” approach.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg addressed the situation at a news conference, noting that first responders had been working around the clock during the storm and were attempting to inject some levity amid long hours and difficult conditions.
