Larry the Cat Celebrates 15 Years as UK’s Chief Mouser

Larry the cat, the UK’s most famous feline, marks 15 years on Sunday as the Chief Mouser of the Cabinet Office, patrolling the corridors of 10 Downing Street since 2011.

Adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home when David Cameron was prime minister, the white and tabby cat has now served six premiers—from Cameron to Keir Starmer—surviving Brexit, Covid-19, the chaos of “partygate,” and Liz Truss’s 49-day whirlwind occupation with unshakeable feline calm.

Now approximately 19 years old, Larry regularly steals the spotlight from visiting world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and even tripped a photographer during a Polish presidential visit in January.

With an X account boasting over 877,000 followers, he grumbles about the rain and takes playful swipes at politicians online.

He now shares the residence with JoJo and Prince, the Starmer family cats, but as a permanent civil servant, Larry gets to stay forever—unlike prime ministers.
