Israel Prepares for Long War in Lebanon
As the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran continues, Israel is simultaneously preparing for an extended campaign against Hezbollah that could outlast the conflict with Tehran.
After the Iran-backed group fired rockets into northern Israel last week, Israel launched a broader assault, hitting more than 600 sites across Lebanon and triggering the largest evacuation since the 2024 war.
Israeli troops now hold at least a dozen outposts inside Lebanese territory. While most air assets are focused on Iran, ground operations against Hezbollah are expected to drag on.
An Arab diplomat said regional players have been warned that the Hezbollah campaign could continue even after any ceasefire with Iran.
France has offered to help disarm the group, and Lebanese officials say they’re open to direct talks with Israel.
But on the ground, the fighting intensifies. Israel’s military chief told commanders: “This will take considerable time. Be prepared.” The goal is to remove the constant threat to northern Israeli communities.
