Iranian hardliners call for a nuclear bomb

Following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, a fierce and public debate has erupted among Iran’s most powerful figures regarding the country’s nuclear future.

Outlets like Tasnim News Agency, which is closely affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, are now openly calling for an immediate withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Prominent hardline politician Mohammad Javad Larijani has echoed these sentiments, urging the government to suspend its treaty membership to see if it still serves Iran’s national interests.

On state television, commentators like Nasser Torabi have claimed that the Iranian public is now demanding the acquisition of a nuclear deterrent to guarantee the regime’s survival against U.S. and Israeli strikes.

While the official “fatwa” against nuclear arms remains a legacy of the late Khamenei, his death has removed a major hurdle for the hawkish factions now dominating Tehran’s war-time strategy.
