Sen. Hoeven Speaks on Iran and Regional Security
John Hoeven said efforts to counter Iran’s influence in the Middle East must include addressing Tehran-backed groups such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.
Speaking to reporters, Hoeven described the three organizations as key components of Iran’s regional network and said Israel’s ongoing operations against Hezbollah are part of a broader effort to confront Iran’s influence across multiple fronts.
Hoeven said the United States is working closely with Israel and suggested coordination between Washington and Israeli leadership will shape the next steps in responding to threats linked to Iran-backed militias.
He also acknowledged challenges facing the Lebanese government in confronting Hezbollah, noting the group’s military strength inside the country complicates efforts by Lebanese authorities to act independently.
Hoeven added that the United States should continue aligning its approach with Israel in determining the most effective strategy moving forward in the region.
