Hegseth: Strait of Hormuz Not Just a U.S. Problem

U.S. defense leaders say security in the Strait of Hormuz should not fall solely on the United States, urging other countries to take a more active role.

Speaking during a Pentagon briefing, Pete Hegseth said the United States has worked to establish conditions for stability in the critical waterway but emphasized that the responsibility is not America’s alone.

Hegseth said the administration has consistently led international efforts while making clear to Iran the consequences of disrupting the strategic shipping route. He added that the issue extends beyond Washington and affects the broader global community.

The defense secretary pointed to remarks earlier from Donald Trump, saying other nations should take notice when the president speaks on security matters and consider strengthening their own defensive capabilities.

Officials say the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, making regional stability a major concern for multiple nations.
