Graham Pushes for Major Changes to Health-Care Subsidies Before Year-End Vote
Senator Lindsey Graham says he will not vote to extend the current health-care subsidy system without significant reforms, arguing the program has become too costly and unsustainable. He criticized subsidies reaching households earning around $300,000 and said every enrollee should pay at least a small monthly premium to reduce fraud and ensure accountability. Graham also rejected directing more funds to insurance companies under the existing structure.
He said the current system is failing to keep care affordable, pointing to steep premium increases under the Affordable Care Act. Graham outlined an alternative approach focused on higher-deductible plans paired with health-savings accounts to help families cover out-of-pocket costs — a model he believes would lower premiums and put more money directly into Americans’ pockets.
