Global Baby Boom: Countries with the Most Births in 2025
New data from the UN’s World Population Prospects 2024 highlights major shifts in global demographic patterns for 2025.
India is projected to record a staggering 23.1 million births, more than double China’s 8.7 million, making it the country contributing the largest share of global population growth.
Nigeria is expected to have 7.6 million births, reflecting its rapidly rising population that is set to overtake the United States by 2050. Other countries contributing significantly to global births include Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, and Ethiopia, all registering millions of newborns this year.
In contrast, Europe faces a continuing fertility crisis with only 6.3 million births, highlighting aging populations and below-replacement fertility rates across the continent.
The United States is estimated to see 3.6 million births, showing slower but steady growth.
These figures underscore the shifting balance of global population growth, with Africa and South Asia leading the way, while many Western and East Asian nations contend with stagnation or decline, raising questions about economic growth, workforce sustainability, and social support systems in the coming decades.
