Getting to the World Cup final from NYC could cost over $100 by train

Train travel to World Cup matches at the Meadowlands stadium in New Jersey could become significantly more expensive during the 2026 tournament.

According to reports, NJ Transit is considering pricing round-trip tickets from New York City at more than $100 for match days. The same journey currently costs about $12.90, meaning prices could rise more than sevenfold.

The Meadowlands stadium is set to host eight World Cup games, including the final on July 19. With parking expected to be limited compared to typical NFL events, public transportation is likely to be one of the main ways for fans to reach the venue.

Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to rely on the rail network for each match.

Officials say no final decision has been made on pricing, but the cost of operating transit services for the eight games is estimated at $48 million.

Authorities have also indicated that parts of New York’s Penn Station may be restricted to ticket holders in the hours leading up to matches.

The proposed pricing has drawn attention as preparations continue for the tournament, with transportation costs becoming a key part of the broader discussion around attending World Cup events.
