Fake AI Battle Clips Surge Online as X Tightens Rules

Social media platform X says it will crack down on users who post AI-generated war videos without clearly labeling them, after online feeds were flooded with fabricated battle footage during the Iran war.

The company announced that creators who repeatedly share AI-generated videos of armed conflict without disclosure will lose access to the platform’s creator revenue program for 90 days. If the violation happens again, the user could face a permanent removal from the monetization system.

The move comes after a wave of misleading videos and images circulated across social media platforms in the early days of the conflict. Some clips falsely appeared to show dramatic battlefield scenes, missile strikes or explosions, gaining millions of views online.

Researchers and fact-checking groups warn that artificial intelligence tools are making it easier than ever to create convincing fake content that spreads quickly during major news events.

X said the new policy is aimed at ensuring users can access reliable and authentic information during times of war, when misinformation can spread rapidly and shape public understanding of events.

The company added that creators who want to share AI-generated content about conflicts must clearly label it as artificial.
