Elon Musk Shifts Focus from Mars to Building a Moon City
Elon Musk has announced a major strategic shift for SpaceX, moving the company’s primary focus from colonizing Mars to building a self-sustaining city on the Moon.
In a recent post on X, Musk explained that reaching the Moon is logistically faster and allows for far more frequent launches than missions to Mars, making it a more practical and immediate goal for establishing a human presence beyond Earth.
While the ambitious Mars project is not canceled, Musk stated that serious work on it will likely begin in five to seven years, effectively postponing the dream of reaching the Red Planet.
This new lunar focus also aligns with and accelerates the timeline of President Trump’s national goal to return American astronauts to the Moon by 2028, positioning SpaceX as a potential key partner in a new era of lunar exploration and permanent settlement within the next decade.
