Dangerous Arctic Cold Grips the United States After Winter Storm

In the Midwest, temperatures near zero and wind chills plunging to 30 to 50 degrees below zero are creating severe frostbite risk, prompting officials to urge residents to stay indoors. Across the Northeast and Mid Atlantic, single digit temperatures, icy roads, and frozen infrastructure are causing burst pipes, heating failures, and continued hazards. Power crews are working to restore electricity to more than 800,000 customers still without power as freezing conditions complicate repairs. Air travel remains heavily disrupted, with thousands of flights canceled or delayed nationwide.
