Could Cuba Be the Next Flashpoint After Iran?

Following the intense military focus on Iran, the Trump administration has signaled that Cuba may be the next priority on its foreign policy agenda.
In recent statements, President Trump has floated the idea of a “takeover” or a “friendly takeover” of the island, which is currently reeling from a total collapse of its electrical grid and a dire fuel shortage.
This crisis was accelerated by a strict U.S. oil blockade initiated in January 2026 and the cutoff of Venezuelan oil following the arrest of Nicolas Maduro.
While the Cuban government under Miguel Díaz-Canel has warned of “impregnable resistance” to any U.S. military action, it has also signaled a willingness to engage in flexible trade talks with U.S. corporations to save its imploding economy.
As the war in the Middle East continues, the focus is shifting toward whether Washington will pursue a diplomatic “deal” or more aggressive action to force a regime change in Havana.
