Dead Grey Whale Found Off Baja California Sur Coast

A dead grey whale was discovered floating roughly 200 meters off the coast of San Carlos, Baja California Sur, on Thursday, marking the latest in a series of whale deaths reported in the region.

The whale, already in an advanced state of decomposition, has alarmed locals and conservationists in an area known for its rich marine biodiversity. Residents say this is at least the fourth whale found dead near the coastline since the start of the season.

While the exact cause of death remains unknown, some suspect natural factors such as low seasonal tides may be contributing. However, no formal investigation has been conducted, and authorities have not responded publicly to the incident.

The carcass is not expected to drift far due to current wind conditions, prompting concerns that its continued decay could affect the surrounding environment. Some hotel owners in the area have proposed preserving the whale’s skeleton as a tourist attraction once decomposition is complete.

The grey whale is a protected species under the International Whaling Commission.
